Grass Burr Time!
Mon January 2, 2023
It is that time of year again to start taking care of those pesky grass burrs. Now is the time to get that first application of herbicide down to get a jump start on the fight before those pests have a chance to get established.
Most chemicals will have little to no effect on grass burrs due to their hardiness. We have to attack grass burrs from a different direction; instead of waiting until the plants are growing, we attack the seeds with a pre-emergent herbicide.
You may be asking what a pre-emergent is…. it’s a chemical that prevents seeds from germinating and growing. The primary pre-emergent product is called Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension. The recommended rate is to apply 4lbs per 1000 sq. ft. and water the chemical into the soil.
You will need to reapply every 30-60 days to stay on top of new growth that occurs. This is not a short term solution but the long term solution that yields the best results.
